Day 8 - Lake City, CO

There was not a whole lot exciting that happened today. John cooked a great breakfast this morning. After breakfast, we went in search of some general information about what to do here and in the area including maps to roads around the mountains on which we can drive as well as some good places for fishing.

We also had to find a clinic to take a look at Stephen’s eye which has not gotten much better. We went to the Lake City Medical Center and as I thought, he had scratched his cornea in three places. So, got some antibiotic cream and went along our way.

Our next stop was to drive the hour into Gunnison to go to the grocery store. Parts of it are pretty, parts of it are really isolated!! We did our business and then proceeded back to Lake City with groceries in hand for the next few days.

The kids went fishing in the stream when we got back.

I guess the exciting news is there is apparently a bear that frequents this area. There was a sighting of him last night (Day 8) as well as this morning about 10 minutes before I’m sitting here writing this blog. One of the guys who works here chased it off this morning from some of the cabins.

Rachel wants to bear hunt. Bet you can’t guess what I want to do!!!

Today we’re going to drive up into the mountains, look at beautiful scenery and wildflowers, and find a nice fishing stream and fish.

Later!
