Happy July 4th & Happy Anniversary to US

Hope everyone had a Happy & Safe July 4th Celebration with your friends and families!!

HAPPY FIRST ANNIVERSARY TO US!

On July 4th last year:

We celebrated our marriage and the beginning of our life together! We had a beautifully small and intimate family celebration of our marriage on Friday, July 4th at Villa Capri in Clear Lake followed on Saturday by a wonderfully fun Texas party with many of our friends at Blanco’s. Two days of family, friends, fun celebrating our marriage. It was so very much the combination of our two personalities. We typically like to say, I got to plan the wedding celebration, he got to plan the party!

Here’s a slideshow of some of my favorites from that day! It’s about 10 minutes long.... so enjoy.

My memories of our wedding day!

Family and friends arrived in Houston the day or two before. Terri & I ran last minute errands (thank you for coming in early). We all had our nails done and Chef John cooked fabulous meal that evening.
12 family members staying in our House - Mom, Dad, Perry, Stacey, Macie, Holley, Scott and Allie, MA, Rachel, Stephen & John in the upstairs garage
Other family staying elsewhere locally - Laila & Justin, Ariane
In the morning, we all went to the Friendswood July 4th Parade as Rachel marched for the first time in the high school marching band
It was pretty hot (but not as hot as this year)
Terri & Jim flew in for our celebration and were picking up the flowers in the morning while we were sweating at the parade (good choice)
Had a lovely lunch with everyone at the house - more food than we needed, but when do we not?
Finished packing and headed down to check in to the Four Seasons downtown so graciously provided by Laila as a wedding gift
It had been raining off and on this afternoon. Hmmm... the wedding was to take place outside on a balcony. Not sure about contingency planning here.
God fixed it! (Praise Him!) It stopped raining at 5:30 pm, just 30 minutes before everyone was supposed to start arriving
We arrived to Villa Capri, on Clear Lake
Family & Friends joined us for drinks, snacks and pictures at 6:00 pm.
Everyone looked beautiful! General color palette was light/pale greens with a little pink. Used the cymbidium orchid as the star!
The wedding began at 7:15 pm. John was very nervous. I was nervous, but not as much as He.
Our children escorted us down the aisle.
The music by which we joined each other at the end of the aisle was Bless the Broken Road sung by Travis Cottrell. I picked it because the lyrics were so applicable to each of us as we have both lived our lives on a broken road at times and that all that other “stuff”, well, they were just stops along the way to you.

I set out on a narrow way, many years ago

Hoping I would find true love along the broken road

But I got lost a time or two

Wiped my brow and kept pushing through

I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you

Every long lost dream led me to where you are

Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars

Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true

That God blessed the broken road

That led me straight to you

Yes He did

I think about the years I spent, just passing through

I'd like to have the time I lost, and give it back to you

But you just smile and take my hand

You've been there, you understand

It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true

Every long lost dream led me to where you are

Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars

Pointing me on my way into your loving arms

This much I know is true

That God blessed the broken road

That led me straight to you

Married under a beautiful old Oak Tree!
The dinner crowd below clapped as we tied the knot.
More pictures (very important)
Lovely dinner with all of us by Villa Capri - the food was excellent, the service was excellent -we were treatedwell
Beautiful cake made for our wedding by the chef - vanilla white cake, strawberry filling, white icing with chocolate dipped strawberries. YUMMY!
The night was capped off with the most amazing Fireworks show. We know this was God planned because from the balcony, there is a narrow sightline straight out to the lake. Both sides are surrounded by some large, relatively thick trees. We had no idea where the fireworks would go off, but bless Him, the barge was literally straight out on the lake directly in front of the restaurant so the show was magnificent!! We have God to give praise to again for arranging it so perfectly.
It was really & truly quite lovely.

Next post - Memories from the Party!! That was fun!

PS - We went back to Villa Capri last night to celebrate our First Anniversary there with dinner and fireworks!! Dinner was great ... no fireworks though on Clear Lake. We did get to see the fireworks at Kemah!! Beautiful!
