Day 13 - Almont, CO - July 28, 2009

I think Day 13 is Tuesday although I’m writing this on Wednesday early am. The really, really nice thing about vacation is you tend to lose track of the day and date when you don’t have to deal with the real world or wait for the next Friday to come around!! My only concept of the days right now is what day are we rafting (Thurs) and how many more days (only 2) do we have left before we have to head back to HOT Texas!!

Here is the fish count as of Tuesday!

A Fish Tale 1

There were two BIG STORIES yesterday! The first is all the GUYS left us GALS at home and went off to a place waaaayyyyyy up in the mountains for some guy time in a very rustic place for a couple of days. Dad, John, Stephen and Scott all left us to head up to Quarter Circle Circle Ranch. Link is HERE if you want to check it out. Not sure where the name came from other than it has to probably have something to do with their Quarter Horse business. It’s about 2 hours from Almont back south kind of close to Lake City/Creede area where we were late last week but higher in the mountains.

Did I say rustic?.... yes....yes, I did. The definition of the word in this case means no electricity and the facilities are in an outhouse! LOL... oh... have fun boys.

The GALS were happily waving goodbye to the boys. We don’t mind having some time to ourselves to shop and eat bon bons. :-) ha ha ha

Day 13 - Story 1

The second BIG STORY from yesterday is that Rachel caught a good size trout in our fishing expedition yesterday! She’s the only one of the 8 of us Gals left that caught a fish yesterday. We could literally see them jumping out of the water but other than her catch, the others weren’t biting on our flies too much. Was frustrated because you could see the little buggers and you’d put your fly right where you just know they are and they wouldn’t take it. Maybe we weren’t using the right flies. It’s the Guys fault - they took all the good ones .....

Back to the Second Big Story - Rachel’s fish. Catching it was fun.... but oh... cleaning it was more entertaining!! LOL... I have a whole video of this and it’ll make you cry from laughing so hard. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get it to YouTube at some point because it’s both hilarious and gross at the same time. The ONE AND ONLY time we have missed the GUYS was THEN!! No one left at the house - 4 adult women, 2 teenage girls and 2 girl children - had ever cleaned a fish nor did we ever want to. Before the BIG GUYS left, we asked them how to do this and they happily described to us how to clean the fish. Hmmmmm...... One by one all the adults exclaimed they were not touching the fish. We all decided that since Rachel caught it, she should have to clean it!! (Almost makes me not want to catch another one today.... ). And... she did.... while we were all watching, laughing and being grossed out at the same time. Absolutely hilarious!!! (and gross - yuck!).

Whew ... we made it through Fish Cleaning 101!! Yucky.. yucky.. yucky.....

After that experience, we all piled into the cars and headed into Crested Butte for dinner and some walking around the little town. It’s a cute little place with some of the most beautiful flower baskets I’ve ever seen. They are all over the place almost at every store along the way. Very pretty! We had a pizza dinner that was really good at Brick Oven which seems to be the happening place. Lots of young, heathy, attractive people hanging out there.

Day 13 - Story 2

I couldn’t help but wonder what people do in Crested Butte to earn a living that would even begin to pay for the cost of living there?? I mean come on... it’s expensive to stay... its expensive to eat... its expensive to do anything. Maybe they are all just wealthy trust fund babies. I’m not knocking it - I wish I were!! :-)

So we ate some good pizza and took a stroll along the little town sidewalks meandering in and out of some stores. Eventually fed everyone some ice cream cones which were a happy hit and then made our way back home for a little bit of game playing!

We’re going fishing again today.... not sure whether I want best wishes to catch them or not as I really, really don’t want to clean em. :-) If Rachel were smart, she’d come up with an effective cost for her fish cleaning services as none of the adults want to do it.
